Ms. Daria Lapshina

Teacher of Russian as a foreign language

Success stories

My name is Daria Lapshina and I am a graduate of the Bachelor's degree program “Russian as a foreign language." I’ve chosen this major because I’ve always been interested in Russian language and literature and was really good at these subjects at school. At the same time, I was very interested in other foreign cultures, so the very idea of teaching Russian to foreign students was very attractive to me. As a result, I applied for the major “Russian as a foreign language”. During my studies I realized that I’ve made the right choice. The biggest advantage of this program is a large number of practical trainings. You attend lectures and seminars, acquire the necessary knowledge and then you have a chance to apply all these in practice and understand your academic achievements and your readiness for this profession. Teaching Russian to foreign students differs greatly from teaching Russian as first language to our students. This process has a lot of peculiarities and our university teachers give us all the necessary knowledge how to do it correct. Moreover, this major gave me an absolutely new look on the Russian language system in general. At the present moment I teach Russian to foreign students and I like it a lot because I get a huge emotional feedback from them. When you work as a teacher, especially with foreigners, you learn something new from them at every lesson. My students have their own cultural background that must be taken into consideration while teaching Russian.

Together with my work, I am a student of the Master's degree program "Modern strategies of literary education." I want to continue my professional and personal growth. That is why I’ve chosen this major. I believe that knowledge of Russian literature and language system will help me to achieve the goal. Moreover, this education degree will give me the right to teach Russian as a foreign language not only in my home country but abroad as well.

I really like my work, and therefore I want to popularize Russian, I want to evoke people’s interest in Russian language and culture. And for this I want to develop professionally, I know that I have room for this growth. And I am very grateful to my university teachers for giving me an opportunity to understand my mission and my profession.
